When you hide (or suppress) your feelings you are pushing them down so that you don’t have to deal with them. This is the most common and the most destructive thing you can do and it can have some very harmful emotional and physical effects. It’s like when you keep shoving the laundry into the hamper—continually packing it down so that you don’t have to do it. Does it get rid of the dirty laundry? No. Does the laundry clean itself? No. What happens is that you end up spending an entire day (or weekend) doing the damn laundry. You don’t want to spend the rest of your life doing your “emotional laundry” do you? No, I didn’t think so.
The second way people handle their feelings is to vent or express them. I’m sure you are all familiar with this one—someone does something to piss you off, so you end up screaming at him in the office kitchen. The sound ricochets off the walls, your co-workers delight in the new office-gossip. Sure, you may feel a little bit of relief but it is only temporary. And not only do you not feel any better, but now the person you yelled at is pissed off too. The anger becomes an office epidemic. I worked in an office like that once. The owner would scream obscenities at people. Her anger filtered down to every single employee.
The third way to handle feelings is to cope or escape from them. You might watch TV, have a drink, eat, smoke, etc. On the surface you may feel better but those negative feelings lie hidden, working their perverse little magic on you. Before you know it, 10 years have gone by and you are 30 pounds heavier, have high blood pressure and you still don’t like your mother. Cookies don’t solve problems. Period.
And of course, the last way to deal with feelings is to let them go. THIS IS THE HEALTHIEST AND MOST BENEFICIAL WAY TO DEAL WITH NEGATIVITY.
How do you let go of negative feelings? There are many successful ways to do this. Some of my favorite methods include the Release Technique, the Sedona Method, I’O, EFT, acupuncture, and meditation.
Dr. John Diamond has an absolutely phenomenal book called “Life Energy.” Many of his beliefs coincide with Lester Levenson’s and Louise Hay’s teachings. Namely, that negativity will take its toll on you. It not only makes you feel awful but it can actually make you physically ill. You must transmute your negative feelings into positive ones. Here is what Dr. Diamond says about transmutation:
“Transmutation is surrendering the negative state and turning around into the positive—instantly, harmlessly, inexpensively, and without outside intervention. To do this, you do not need a psychiatrist. You just need to have the will and desire to give up the negative and come forward into the positive.”
Get that? Life is a decision. You must make the decision to feel better. Then decide on a method and do it.
Here are some useful resources for learning to let go so that you can be happy, healthy and abundant:
John Diamond - “Life Energy”John Diamond’s philosophy is quite extraordinary. He believes that an underactive thymus gland leads to energy imbalances, emotional and mental problems and disease. What are the causes of an underactive thymus gland? Yep, you guessed it—negativity. You can activate your thymus gland through positive affirmations and acupressure. I love his book and use it all the time.

Louise Hay – “You Can Heal Your Body”
Louise Hay is the goddess mother of positive affirmations. She has an amazing book called “Heal Your Body” which links the emotional and mental states of mind to physical illness. She is the real deal, not some capitalistic “self-help guru” trying to make a buck. She even cured her own ovarian cancer. This book is an absolute must-have.
She has a delightful movie too.

Lester Levenson – “The Ultimate Truth”
Where has this guy been all my life? He is the founder of the Release Technique. But even more importantly, he is an amazing Master. This tiny little book is so incredibly valuable and inspiring.

Faster EFT with Robert SmithRobert has developed a quicker and easier eft (emotional freedom technique) method for letting go. Basically by tapping on energy meridians and stating positive affirmations, you can clear away any stuck energy. As my dad says, it’s a great way to immediately let go of any “stinkin’ thinkin’.”

I’O - Laurie GrantI have worked with Laurie for over 13 years. She is a profound healer and teacher. Under her instruction and guidance, I have become a successful and powerful healer, intuit, and teacher myself. Her I’O series allowed me to surrender fully and learn to trust in the universe. For me, I’O proved to be the most powerful step I took on my personal development path.

The Release Technique – Larry CraneThe Release Technique is essential for overcoming any obstacles to getting what you desire. If you really want to let go of some serious garbage, this is the technique for you. It’s so simple too.![]()
